Roxbury and Surroundings

The Roxbury Barn is located in the Western Catskills, where the vistas open wide up, and where our rural heritage is celebrated every day. We are less than a mile outside of the village of Roxbury, and during the weekend of your event you and your guests are minutes from hiking, biking, peddling, shopping, train riding, lounging, performing arts, or a group meet-up and start of the day at the famous Round Barn Farmers Market.

The Farmers Market at the Round Barn
Just a couple of miles away from the Roxbury Barn, the Farmers Market at the Round Barn in neighboring Halcottsville is held from mid May through mid October. Area farmers and artisans gather to share their creativity and bounty. The market runs Saturdays from 9am – 2pm. Local, organic and sustainable farms, crate farms, pasture raised meats, trout, cheeses, breads as well as bedding plants for your garden and patio. Make it your brunch start of the big day as there are food vendors and picnic tables. Artisans also sell jewelry, soaps, quilts, wool, wood products and more. Visit the website
Public Lounge
Weekenders, tourists, and locals alike mingle in this sparkling, modern cocktail and coffee lounge at the heart of Roxbury, now serving great food too! Built inside a former blacksmith’s shop, the Public Lounge has an amazing interior design; the latest music and video projections; specialty drinks; free broadband internet; and a warm friendly service. Roxbury Depot Museum
The newly-opened Roxbury Depot Museum contains memorabilia from the railroads that originally utilized the Depot-the Rondout & Oswego, New York, Kingston & Syracuse, Ulster & Delaware, West Shore-Catskill Mountain branch and the Penn Central, among others. Delaware & Ulster Rail Road
The Delaware and Ulster is an excursion train that combines railroad nostalgia with scenic rides through New York’s legendary Catskill Mountains. Saturdays and Sundays May 29 – October 31, and Columbus Day. The one hour and fifty three minute trip goes from Arkville to Roxbury and back. A great opportunity for a rehearsal dinner as well! Plattekill Bike Park
For almost 10 years, Plattekill has been one of the Northeast’s premier destination for downhill mountain biking and freeriding. The technical terrain is among the best on the East Coast and has helped Plattekill earn a worldwide reputation as a mountain biking paradise. The trails at Plattekill range from fast, open runs to tight rocky single-track. Visit the website
Roxbury Arts Group
The Roxbury Arts Group provides a wide variety of live entertainment, concerts, dance, theatre, fine arts exhibitions, workshops, and arts programming for children and youth. Visit the website
Catskill Scenic Trail
The Catskill Scenic Trail lies on top of the former rail bed of the Ulster & Delaware Railroad. This 19-mile Rails to Trails project offers a hard-packed surface that makes it perfect for hiking, biking, horseback riding during the warm months. Only a four hundred foot change in grade over the entire trail. Visit the website
Shephard Hills Golf Course
The nine-hole course offers a challenging terrain with spectacular mountain views. The full service clubhouse and pro shop are located in the estate’s former guesthouse, a remarkable stone structure commissioned by the Gould family in 1911. Visit the website
Kayaking and Canoeing
Susan’s Pleasant Pheasant Farm in Halcottsville (4 miles away from our barn) offers rentals of single or double crafts. Peddle away on Lake Wawaka. There’s high quality life vests, paddles and whistles too. Visit the website
BiblioBarn
This welcoming 19th century bookshop/workshop is located in a charming, renovated barn. The vintage selection of modestly priced books in all categories is presided over by the vintage proprietors, H.L. and Linda Wilson. Bibliobarn is open Monday to Saturday 10am – 6pm and Sundays 1-6pm. link
