Combining its old-world grandeur with a stunning natural environment, The Roxbury Barn & Estate is the perfect setting for a elegant, “Upstate chic” celebration.
Events can be scheduled from mid May till mid October. We host only one Full Day Event each weekend day, and also offer the possibility of a smaller Afternoon Celebration or a Sunday or Midweek Elopement.
Come travel to a whole new state of mind. Enjoy the many acres of pristine wilderness, and the exceptional spaces of our estate, which honor and preserve the very best of the Catskills’ heritage and history.
Our 166-year old bank barn is built against a cliff, with the lower floor (the caterer’s prep area) only exposed on the backside. The event spaces in the barn are on the middle and top floor.
The interior is both spacious and intimate with it’s two level setup, combining silver-gray washed rough-cut walls all around, with state-of-the-art modern Italian design lighting, and near-black, warm stained beams and wooden floors.
Painstakingly restored and renovated, the original post and beam construction and elegant details are combined with modern amenities such as AC, heating, wifi, and a classy bar, to facilitate flawless events.
The middle floor opens up to a blissful, tree-lined courtyard, surrounded by lawns and a lily pond, through two large barn doors, married to a spectacular glass facade. The bar and the spacious, comfortable restrooms are also located on the middle floor. The two upper floors of our Catskill Barn together seat up to 140 persons for dinner. Here’s a floor plan of the Barn’s middle floor.
The top floor is usually the primary dining area (though during warmer evenings, couples may also choose to have dinner on the graveled and tree lined courtyard in front of the barn). The balustrades on the top floor open up to the floor below.

The middle level is the perfect place to continue your celebration with dancing and a band or deejay.
Though most barns tend to be dark because of a lack of windows, each of the three floors of our carriage barn has seven windows facing the southern gardens. (These windows originally were added 76 years ago, when the then-owners converted the barn into a chicken coop – more on that and the rich history of our estate on our History Page.)
And once the sun sets, all stays gorgeously lit, with many hundreds of sophisticated, warm romantic lights, inside the barn and around the grounds.
Bordering hundreds of acres of forever wild forests in the rural region of the Western Catskills, The Roxbury Barn & Estate consists of 42 acres of forest, pine groves, rolling meadows, streams, frog ponds, and beautifully maintained perennial gardens. Upon arrival through our tree covered driveway, you’ll enter the large, sloping meadows of Spring Hill, where a large bonfire is set up, waiting to be lit as the finale to your day. The large field and the pavilion on top offer gorgeous mountain views. The pavilion serves as a first meeting point for your guests, and often gets used as the location for cocktail hour.
The adjacent pine grove at the edge of our forest, is the ideal open air setting for your Catskill wedding ceremony. Its tall pine trees create the feel of a natural cathedral, adding drama to the occasion.
Strolling down Spring Hill, you and your guests will enter the tree lined lawn, leading to the barn with its large open barn doors. The lawn, with a rambling brook on one side and the water lily pond on the other, is also a great spot for cocktails, or on a warmer evening, an outdoor dinner celebration.
The Roxbury Barn & Estate is located just over a mile from Roxbury’s village Main Street, and during your wedding weekend you and your guests are minutes from kayaking in Lake Wawaka, mountain biking at Plattekill, golf courses and hiking paths, a train ride through our valley, shopping and antiquing, a distillery tasting, or browsing the famous Round Barn Farmers Market.

Directions to The Roxbury Barn & Estate
Built as a summer house with a horse carriage barn more than a century and a half ago, The Captain’s House and the Roxbury Barn & Estate were founded by a Mississippi riverboat captain. Since then the barn has served as chicken coop (though that adventure was short-lived), and the place has starred in an Oscar nominated movie…
